  1. I can’t believe it has been almost a decade since Mirai’s KinderCarmen program. I forgot how lovely her arm movements were when she was with Frank Carroll. Ting Cui really reminds me of her in that respect. I am so thankful for the YouTube rabbit hole. I have finally accepted that my schedule doesn’t gel with keeping up with the skating season, so YouTube is my primary way of getting my skating fix.
  2. Libby96, I am going to follow your lead and put my wish list for Worlds out into the universe. For men, I am rooting for Hanyu to take the title in front of the home crowd. I can't decide who else I want on the podium with him, but it would be great if Boyang, Nathan, Shoma, and Kolyada were to round out the top 5. For ladies, I really hope that each of the ladies on Team Japan are able to put out two clean skates. With her jump content and skating quality, Rika deserves the win if she nails her programs. I hope all of the ladies of Team Russia do well and work together to maintain the three spots. I am also rooting for Tursynbaeva to nail the quad in her long program, and for both Bradie and Mariah to make it in to the top 10. For pairs, my biggest wish is for Sui and Han to skate safely and protect their injuries as best they can. Peng and Jin are there to help China get back its three spots, so hopefully they won't feel the need to push themselves if they are hurting. I am also rooting for Cain and Leduc to make it in the top ten and get two spots for the US. For ice dance, all I want is fair judging. That may be the biggest wish of all, but anything is possible.
  3. I found the ice dance competition hard to watch. I don’t know if it was because the majority of competitors were from Gadbois, but all of the angsty routines kind of blurred together. Chock and Bates were really able to stand out by bringing a level of fun that was missing. However, I thought that Sui and Han executed the best dance choreography of the competition and they are in a completely different discipline. I am not sure what that says about the state of ice dance at the moment.
  4. You need an explosive twist to break into the top level of pairs. The Knierims are the team that have it and could break through; unfortunately, they struggle with the mental aspect and putting all the elements together when it counts. It is very frustrating to watch them knowing what they could be and how it could help the U.S. pairs field in general with more spots for Worlds.
  5. I have been having trouble getting into nationals, so this morning I watched Wake Up U.S. Championships with Mirai and Nick McCarvel. It is a daily feature U.S. Figure Skating is airing live on their Facebook. It was interesting to hear Mirai’s thoughts as she actually competed with a lot of the athletes. She praised Bradie’s competitive mindset, and predicted that this steadiness would help her repeat her title. She also felt that Mariah created a moment despite her mistake on the triple-triple combo, noting that she could see Mariah’s facial expressions from her view way up high in the arena. It was clear that she thought Alysa needed more time to develop and grow into becoming a senior lady. It made me wonder if she wished she had time to do so without the pressure of being national champion as a 14 year old. They also did a preview of the rhythm dance. Mirai made it clear that she is not an ice dance expert. However, she has been focusing on improving her skating skills since she is limited in what she can practice during her recovery from her hip injury. She is currently taking ice dance lessons with Ben Agosto, and has been trying to learn the pattern for the Tango Romantica. She emphasized how hard the pattern is. Mirai and Nick both thought that H/D are the favorites for the title due to their experience and growth since getting World silver. They were both excited to see Chock and Bates return. Mirai thinks their connection has grown stronger due to their struggle with Madison’s injury. They also think there is a lot of upcoming talent that deepens the field in the U.S.
  6. Han is gorgeous. Team China is reliable for good eye candy. I think both Han and Jin Yang have a certain elegance about them that reminds me of Zhao Hongbo.
  7. This is great news. I was scared he might retire. Han has such lovely skating skills, and he has my favorite triple axel in the men’s field. I am also excited for Sui and Han’s return. I don’t know if they have had much time to rebuild after Wenjing’s injury, but they always bring the skating skills and drama even when their big elements aren’t completely there. Worlds felt empty last year without them. Moving on to US Nationals, I am excited for the battle in ice dance. I have a soft spot for Hawayek/Baker, but Chock and Bates have my second favorite tango choreography this season. While I love the choreography, they look cautious performance wise and the program needs more mileage. They seem set to peak at March for worlds rather than nationals.
  8. That's the second silver for a Turandot free skate.
  9. That is an interesting choice. I do like that they are looking at potential and not just medalists. I am surprised Nike hasn't signed Laurie yet; she has the full package and is likely to stick around for the next quad if her body lets her. Maybe she will go the Reebok route like Aly did.
  10. Gabby is also the face of Nike's new athleisure line, and will be promoting it with Teen Vogue so I agree that she is coming out fine sponsor wise. Momager might as well go full on Kris Jenner and consider having her do a Gabby lip kit since her lipstick choices got buzzed about along with her hand placement.
  11. Did they cut the part where they preview Pyeongchang? I was expecting shots of snowcapped mountains and Gracie Gold, and it just stopped and went to the Vocie.
  12. There are several comments on Gabby's instagram stating that she is starting classes at Ohio State tomorrow. If that is true, I'm not sure if she could balance college, the tour, and a competitive reality show.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gabby on DWTS next season. Her sponsors are speaking out in support of her and she has been trending on Twitter and yahoo when others on the team are winning medals. It may not be the win she expected, but she can use the experience to work in her favor. I am beyond nervous for beam. There are too many people that I want to see on the podium. I am rooting for Simone and Laurie. I also want Ponor to get a medal for Romania, Flavia to smash it for Brazil, and for Sanne to hit her routine and take it all. Why are there only three medal spots?
  14. Well there were doping accusations from Viktoria Komova during the last world championships. She commented on social media about the U.S. gymnast using steroids after their team win. She did later apologize; Aly acknowledged the apology and Gabby shared a hug with her after she tied to win the uneven bars finals. Ferlito also made the racist comments about painting her skin black after Simone's first world championship win, which followed Gabby's 2012 win. In comparison, Gabby's failure to fake the funk and clap hard enough seems rather tame.
