  1. Past hour
  2. Over the years I have gotten tired of the standard sci-fi narcissistic notion that "only humans matter" - as if it would be perfectly fine if all life on Earth was destroyed but a small group of humans managed to survive. Personally, I don't think life would be worth living without all the other life on Earth. But there are so many issues with (Chinese Mom) Yen Wenjie's way of thinking: Turning "Silent Spring" into a anti-human manifesto is messed up. "All life is connected.": agreed - but that includes human life. Yen has been betrayed, beaten, helped deforest acres of land and has lost faith in humanity .. but her own brutality is making her seem like an evil crazy genius scorned woman. Yen received only one message from the aliens before she invited them to conquer Earth. Why would she assume the aliens were only interested in subjugating humans? They could have plans to terraform the entire planet.
  3. I don't see her stringing him along at all. Paige is committed and happy. They're talking marriage. She just doesn't want to be financially beholden to him (or any man), which I get. Further, were the gender reversed, this wouldn't even be a discussion point. It's crazy to me to me that because Paige (as the desperate over 30 woman) isn't the one begging Craig (the reluctant bachelor) to propose that it means she doesn't love him or isn't committed to their future. Shocked by the empathy & grace Paige & Amanda showed Lindsey. She doesn't deserve it but it was nice to see. Same again with the guys supporting Carl. I'm shocked at how close they actually came to getting married when they're so broken as a couple. Lindsey never truly questioned Carl's sobriety, she just resented his calling out her drinking. Yeah, that's healthy communication. Did she learn that from her therapist?. Finally, Craig looked so HOT in that mechanics uniform.
  4. I understand why it's an hour, because they have to fill the spot previously occupied by the James Corden show. I'm not sure what more they could do to make it work better as an hour-long show, but it really did work better as a half-hour show. When it's not working, it's really, really not working.
  5. I've always heard it as 'blowing' a gasket, which is something that can happen to an engine, you don't really 'throw' a gasket.
  6. OK I'll explain. It's because they do this all the time. Assuming she's seen the show before I'm sure Jem knows she's supposed to re-hide the clue for someone else to find. Hijinks ensue! In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the producers prompted her to do so during one of her confessional segments. "Hey, have you thought about re-hiding the clue? Wouldn't that be funny?" You can't pin this on the players. The show itself loves this shit. It's what they're known for. If you're going to get bent out of shape over someone planting a false idol or re-hiding the clue then blame the show, not the people on it. Because the show itself has made it crystal clear this is exactly what they want, and this is exactly what they think the audience loves to see. I'm positive the gleeful expression on Jem's face while talking about the reburied clue and all the digging was mirrored by the production people and cameramen as she was explaining it. They were laughing it up right along with her. Hell, she probably wouldn't have ever even thought about it on her own.
  7. So I didn’t make it all the way to Easter without using Reddit. I have been using the browser version, but haven’t been logging in or posting; just searching things in Google (as in “bad job market 2024 Reddit”) and reading threads. I’m probably going to go back on the app in another day or two to clean out my subs and maybe start a new account (one of the positive things about Reddit is how often you can nuke your account and start over). Aside from all the stuff I mentioned about wanting to free myself from fandom drama (and feeling successful now that I also left a fandom Facebook group where I was bullied), I think the other big thing I learned is that I don’t need Reddit like I thought I did. Life has gone on just fine and no differently without having the app and being able to check my notifications or scroll endlessly. I still have some of the same life issues but no social media app or hobby can take those away. You just have to find ways to deal or make plans to fix them without being online all the time. Also, even though I don’t feel like I’ve fully resolved some of the disappointment I have with not fitting in with some fandom circles or feeling envious of more “popular” fans or fanfic writers, I’ve realized that it really is much better to talk to a few open-minded people who are respectful of my TV opinions even if they don’t agree than feel like I’m begging for validation from a hive mind group of strangers and wishing they liked me. More friends isn’t always better. I also think that even though Easter is this Sunday, I should try to arrange for some more “unplugged” time on a regular basis. Like maybe every Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, muting all social media apps to focus on other things. I may do what a friend of mine did for Lent where she got off all social media but kept Facebook messenger in case someone needed her and so she didn’t cut off all contact from her friends and family. That seems like a good balance because with messenger you only talk to the people who you want to talk to and you don’t spend time endlessly scrolling for new messages.
  8. Hand wave the gun issue as blond guy’s heroic moment making a choice knowing that yeah Athena was going to arrest him regardless of what he did but he was still going to do the right thing at that moment. Which is kinda why I am sad he died. I would have much preferred it was handled like the young car thief who hotwired a truck to save a dude’s life back during another disaster. Yeah you did a good thing but I am still gonna arrest you.
  9. Anduin

    Prey (2022)

I watched this again. Still great. I don't even have any nitpicks! Stunning, I know. Someone on IMDB thinks Naru shows off the strength of three men. Maybe when she's stuck in the bog and has the strength to throw her axe several times? That could be born of desperation. When she hauls Big Beard from the river to the trap? He's bigger than her. Maybe she cut off his legs first, to save weight. Of course, some people look for any reason to tear down a movie starring a woman. Overall, yes, I love it and will absolutely watch it again in future.
  10. No. Apartmenmts.com is a separate business from homes.com.
  11. Does anyone know if/how these agents (i.e. those who specialize in luxury properties) will be affected by the recent ruling re: the 6% commission, etc.?
  12. I was basing my question on the post I quoted. The original quote was behind a spoiler tag since it was in the general thread, not the individual episode:
  13. It is probably a toss up. ToC is filmed long before airing too. No way to know which was actually filmed first.
  14. Nooooooooo! Of course! That’s the one role everyone remembers, the harass drill sergeant with a heart that came out at the very end. “Get the hell out of here.” 😭😭😭😭😭😭 One also shouldn’t forget Fiddler in Roots! I loved how at first it’s easy to dismiss him as an Uncle Tom trope until you realize he’s doing what he has to do to stay alive…and even despite all that he still helps Kunta try to escape.
  15. I personally don't buy anything out of Cam's mouth and I'm on record here speculating that he over-dramatized his heart issue and milked it for all it was worth just to avoid being on the show. Emily struggles with expressing herself on camera especially when her buttons are pressed or she would have articulated that better, but I knew where she was coming from with that. I am frankly shocked that more people didn't see through Cam's ploy there. My father had heart procedures and eventually a triple bypass and I was the only person assisting him at that time so I am well aware of what a procedure can do to someone, but how many weeks ago was Cam's procedure even if we counted the actual weeks from the marriages to the procedure to decision day, etc.? My father was already in his 80s when he had his work done and he would have been able to appear on the show after all those weeks, I am very sure of that. Keisha had to know that anything she got out of Emily would only make her look bad. Cam comes off so "sincere" but I am personally not buying it. Keisha took advantage of people's willingness to believe that Cam wouldn't stretch the truth about something like that and I think that was intentional to make Emily look like the bad guy there. YMMV.
  16. I like seeing cute dogs. No, I don't want to see her lick her butt. I love her little face. I love her little sweaters. I loved seeing her woof at the bottle of evil spirits. I even just loved when she was laying there and Will was absent-mindedly petting her. Dogs make me happy. Sometimes -- often? -- dogs are just gimmicks in shows/movies. If she is here, I don't care. Like I said, seeing her is always a bright spot.
  17. The Dollar General Store now sells several brands of deodorant that has no aluminum for at least half that price.
  18. I mea she and Ahsoka took down way more without really breaking a sweat. I'll admit I laughed a little when the three of them were all trying to threaten her to leave because they'd handled much worse. Hahahaha. I gotta admit, I love her, "Let's play" in the clip. And it just shows how much she was holding back with the three of them. I mean, they were good but against Ventress but still.

    S07.E03: Capsized

To be fair, knowing about guns might just mean she knows that she would not be shooting a sniper's rifle but something more like an extremely short barreled smooth bore shotgun. Not something designed for accuracy at range but just to put a flare into the air.
  20. *snort* My mind immediately goes to the Barbie movie’s brewski beers (the horror) and mojo dojo casa houses.
  21. Victoria played the organ last season when they had to get a critter out of a church organ and she turned out to be a member of the congregation or something like that.
  22. $13 for deodorant but The Waifs wear rags and shoes that don’t fit. Crap like this is why I hate Jill. 😡
  23. The writing on this show is not great. It's got a talented cast that manages to make the characters likable and endearing, but a lot of the writing is subpar.
  24. Louis Gossett Jr., 1st Black man to win supporting actor Oscar, dies at 87
